Transitions

Hi everyone,

We have made a list of all the little details for transitions for each piece. This document is meant to supplement your practicing, but you still need to be reviewing the Wail script document so you are familiar with all the text and the order of the pieces. For some of the transitions it just says “start immediately” - this means there is no extra music that has been added in to the transition, and that you will already be in your starting positions for this piece.

Transitions to May 2:

Top of Show to Siren Songs
Pitch: Deirdre gives pitches and conducts

Siren Songs to Making Waves
Music: humming Siren Songs underneath Joshua’s text
Movement: slow motion walking from offstage to Making Waves positions
Pitch for MW: Jenny spreads D hum

Making Waves to Kiurun Tie

Pitch: taken from the end of MW

Kiurun Tie to Storm Soundscape

Pitch: Jenny spreads low G for A2s

Storm Soundscape to Sea-Wash
Music: continue ominous rumbling quietly

Movement: gasp and reaching upward motion, coming to standing

Movement: stillness during text

Sweet Clover to Briar and the Rose
Movement: already sitting in Briar and the Rose positions by the end of Sweet Clover

Briar and the Rose to Morning Tide
Text: dialogue between Joshua and sirens
Movement: move backwards in clump, cue to stop is Joshua’s line “Don’t worry I won’t hurt you”
Pitch: Deirdre sings m.1 as solo and sets pitch

Morning Tide to Pakkanen

Movement: all sirens drift from standing to To Be Sung on the Water positions - Younglings sitting on the floor in small groups, Elders standing behind

Music: D minor descending scale, sopranos descend from fifth to tonic (started by Deirdre), altos descend from tonic down to fifth
Movement: Elders help up Younglings, all walk toward UL exit; interrupted by Jordyn’s text then all move down toward SS1 positions

Swansongs 1 to Raising the Wind
Music/Text: Tenille calls with siren song line, Joshua says “From the deck of the ship I could hear them calling, wailing”, rest of Elders sing siren song line then Younglings start to rumble underneath
Movement: Standing still, but anger bubbling up inside of you, embodying the siren
Pitch: Tenille sets pitch with solo opening to Siren Song under Joshua’s text

Raising the Wind to Bringers
Movement: TBA on Sunday
Pitch: Deirdre sings solo on a C

Movement: sirens help each other up and move to Alone positions starting with Sara’s lines “You walked one day with me...”
