Notes for Sunday April 1!

Hi everyone!

If you missed last Sunday's rehearsal, we did a run of Parts 1 & 2 without stopping. It probably didn't go as well as anyone would have hoped, but we had some productive discussions about what we need to do to increase success. Everyone agreed to commit working on some important issues: memorizing music, watching Christina while performing, knowing the running order of the show, and feeling solid with movement.

For this Sunday, we will be doing a run of Part 3 & 4. After your feedback on Sunday, we will do a "walk through" of the movement before we do a run with music. Please look over all music and movement in detail and come prepared to work from memorization as much as possible. If you were not present for any part of our March Power Weekend, you absolutely must meet with someone from your section to go over what you missed. It's important to watch your section mates actually do the movement, and then do it with them. Only writing it in your scores will not facilitate memorization.

This will also be our last rehearsal for the Titanic performances, so Making Waves and Briar and the Rose must be top of your memorization list. Christina would like altos to especially look over your parts in Making Waves. We have just found out that we will not be singing To Be Sung on Water for the Titanic performances. We will sing Briar & the Rose for the Sunday memorial service.

Please remember that ALL music must be memorized by Sunday April 15, and that there is no rehearsal Easter Weekend, so please track your practice time accordingly. We will be running completely offbook from April 15 onward.

Thank you for all of your hard work so far and we can't wait to rock out on Thursday night at Ladies Night!!! Sell those tickets and get all of your friends and family to come out for an awesome night in support of Xara!!!!!

Notes for Sunday March 25!

Hello Ladies!

Both Claire and Christina were pleased with some elements of our run of Part 1 on Sunday, however, we were also both disappointed with how many of the pieces were not yet memorized. We fully recognize that this is a demanding time of year for many of you and a few singers have taken the opportunity to explain to us any particular circumstances about the schedule as well as their intended strategy for catching up. Please remember that ALL music must be memorized by April 15 (after Easter Weekend).

For this Sunday, we will be doing some targeted work on sections 3 & 4, so please review:
  • Sweet Clover
  • Pakkanen
  • Bringers
  • I'll Give My Love an Apple/Swansongs 2
As well, we will be doing a run of Parts 1 & 2, so please devote your memory work to this half of the show. We will expect to see significant improvement in Part 1 in light of the work we did last week, and also expect to see good progress on Part 2. Please also review the movement for these two sections.

This is the point in our rehearsal process when your work on the show needs to be very consistent and regular, rather than irregular and for longer periods. Looking at your music a little bit every day will facilitate memory work much more easily than cramming the day before rehearsal.

In order to be as ready as possible for Ladies Night, we would like to have an extra rehearsal for Ladies Night music only on Tuesday March 27 from 7-9 pm at DANSpace-on-Grafton at 1531 Grafton St (near Pizza Corner). This is an optional rehearsal as we understand that not everyone will be able to make it, however, we hope that lots of people will be able to be there (and we will have a lot of fun!). And don't forget to SELL SELL SELL those tickets!

PS - Reminder for those who can be available to block off the morning of April 12 in your calendar for our performance for the Lieutenant Governor.

Notes for Sunday March 18!

Hi everyone,

Excellent work last weekend! We felt that the Power Weekend was extremely productive, very focused, and wonderfully positive! Thank you for all your hard work and we want to continue this momentum as we move forward with WAIL!

For this coming Sunday, we will be doing a run of Part 1. We are looking to see music and movement from memory and really rock solid!!!

We will also touch on Swansongs 2/I'll Give My Love an Apple, the Titanic set, and spend some time on the group pieces for Ladies Night.

If you missed any part of the Power Weekend, please remember that it is your responsibility to sit down with someone from your section before rehearsal and get all of the music and movement notes that we covered this weekend.

Reminder to keep selling those Ladies Night tickets!!!!! Make sure that your guests know about the date & venue change!

Also, please note in your calendars that due to the Titanic ceremony on the afternoon of Sunday April 15, our rehearsal will be moved to the evening, exact times TBA.

Thanks everyone, and see you Sunday!

Notes for March Power Weekend

Hello everyone!

We were really pleased with rehearsal on Sunday; we know it was demanding both in terms of music and movement but we felt we made some excellent progress. It is key now that we don't lose any of the ground we gained on Sunday, as we need to keep moving forward each week. With that said, here is some information about the upcoming Power Weekend!!!

Dates:
Saturday March 10 - 9:30 am - 4 pm
Sunday March 11 - 1:15-4:45 pm

Location:
Fairview United Church

We will be having an hour-long lunch break, and you are welcome to bring food to the church or to leave and eat elsewhere.

We will be rehearsing the music and movement for Parts 3 & 4. So for this weekend, please have a look at:

Morning Tide
Pakkanen
To Be Sung on Water
Swansongs 2/I'll Give My Love an Apple
Swansongs 1
Raising the Wind
Bringers
Alone

We will also be rehearsing the Titanic set, so come prepared to work on Making Waves, Briar and the Rose, and To Be Sung on Water.

We are hoping to do a run of Part 3 on Saturday, and a run of Part 4 on Sunday.

We will also spend an hour going over Ladies Night group numbers on Saturday afternoon! There is now a Facebook Event for the fundraiser, so please start selling those tickets!!! Let's spread the word and pack the house that night!

Notes for Sunday March 4th + Titanic Info

Hi everyone!

We just wanted to give you an update on our rehearsal plan for this Sunday. Your top priority needs to be getting Kiurun Tie into tip-top shape, including a strong grasp of all the music and working on memorization.

Please have a look at the following pieces before rehearsal on Sunday:

  • Sweet Clover
  • Pakkanen
  • To Be Sung on Water
  • Maiden and the Sea
  • Alone

We will also be working the movement in depth for Part 2.

Christina will be holding solo auditions for Briar & the Rose and the final solo in Raising the Wind, so if you are interested in these, please come prepared! Claire will be working on the text for Mermaid, so please prepare for those small speaking solos if you are interested.

**LADIES NIGHT NOTES**

Tenille would like to let everyone know that you are responsible for your own backup music for your songs. If you bring your track in early enough, we can burn them all in order onto one CD.

Also, since this is a ticketed event, we would like all songs to be memorized if possible.

Start spreading the word!!! Posters & tickets for the event will be available on Sunday. Let’s sell out this show!!!!

TITANIC PERFORMANCE

The decision has been made regarding the repertoire for the Titanic performances:

Making Waves

Briar and the Rose

To Be Sung on the Water

There will be some text interwoven with the pieces, but we will NOT be starting and stopping the music (like we did in Fatty Legs).

These pieces need to be top of the memorization list as we will be performing them from memory on April 14 & 15.

Thanks all and see you Sunday!!!!
