This piece takes us from the moment when
Margaret arrives at the school until the moment when she burns the socks. It
contains the cutting of her braids, the mockery of her classmates, bullying by
the Raven, Margaret’s frustration at doing manual labour instead of learning to
read, and the eventual burning of the socks at the very end.
