WIND : Blas you, what do you want?!

MEN : (echo) What do you want *shimmy wings*

(continue to shimmy wings until next echo)

Living Soundscape

Men & XYE : wind sounds, crescendo and decrescendo with Christina

NARRATOR :  She asked the Wind if he could tell her the way to the Princess who dwelt east of the sun and west of the moon.

WIND:  Yes, I know well enough where it is.

MEN: (echo) Where is is… *move wings forward and back twice, in time with Christina*

*return to shimmy*

WIND: If you really wish to go thither, and aren’t afraid to come along with me, I’ll take you on my back.

MEN: (echo) On my back *move wings down and then up to the sides, twice, in time with Christina*

*return to shimmy*

XYE: (singing) The higher the old gulls fly

NARRATOR: Off the went high up through the air, as if they would never stop ‘til they got to the world’s end. *over this text, raise sticks to high position, starting with the people in the centre and moving outward*

XYE: (singing)
When the wind is in the north… *walk forward 4 steps, in time, beginning on right foot, and then backwards 4 steps, also starting on right foot*

When the wind is in the south… *BIG SLOW down then up motion out to the sides, in time with music, twice*

Traveling Soundscape

*Underneath the following text, men do two LONG LOUD wind breaths & Neil whistles – Xara lift and lower wings at random (stormy wings)*

NARRATOR: Down here below there was such a storm; when it swept over the great sea, ships foundered by hundreds.

XYE : (singing) When the wind is in the east…. *continue stormy wings* …”neither fit for man nor beast” *return sticks to start positions*

WIND: ARE YOU AFRAID? *on last syllable, raise sticks to high position*

Men: (echo) Afraid

Traveling Soundscape with Decresendo

Under the following text
Men :
-       2 big, loud wind breaths
-       2 half wind breaths
-       4 wimpy breaths
Xara : wings flap forward and back in time with music, then decrease to half time (once per bar) on Christina’s cue. You do 5 of these slower flaps and then stop.

NARRATOR: No, she wasn’t. They tore on and on, and the wind got more and more weary, and so out of breath he could scarce bring out a puff. (*start slow flaps here*)His wings drooped and drooped till at last he suck so low that the crests of the waves dashed over his heels.

XYE: (singing) When the wind is in the west… *big slow down and up motion – down, up, down, hold* *return to starting wing position when the tempo picks up*
